Tape experiments 40-years in the making from the mind of Mischa Falkenburg

New York, NY: cmntx records is thrilled to release Vocal Explorations by Mischa Falkenburg. While working on an off-shore oil rig in the 1980s, Falkenburg’s fondness for tape as an artistic medium and tool grew. He spent two weeks out at sea and one week on land. His time off the rig was often spent at his reel-to-reel tape recorder recording short snippets of audio that were manipulated into vast, complex, and intensely emotive soundscapes. After 40-years, three of Falkenburg’s pieces are now released displaying a natural and timeless sound still strikingly relevant in today’s experimental music scene. 

Vocal Explorations marks the first release of cmntx’s “Interjections Series.” This series is dedicated to musical exploration, offering artists a platform to present experimental projects and work outside of their typical practice, both new and archival. These projects are free of preconceived genre expectations and are steeped in the DIY spirit of production and experimentation.
