"of Rest and Community" is a collection of sound collages that explore a warmth-first approach to cyborg music creation. Pulling from audio journalism, AI training datasets, prepared classical guitar, and a bowed mountain dulcimer, the album assembles meditations on dreams, hallucinations, and rejuvenations, and the collective fabric of reality we all weave together.
Collaged by Brian Ellis in late 2022, this collection contains some lush and expansive tracks, such as "the man in a top hat near the church turns out to be a hedge" and “mountains smaller than a stone”, that aim to wrap the listener in a tight cosmic hug, as well as other pieces, such as "spring or summer" and "into the cathedral" that follow in a prepared classical guitar and fixed media tradition. The album additionally highlights recordings from Carmin Sherlock, whose readings and journalism appear prominently on two collages. These audio sources provided not only beautiful sonic textures, but also the ethos of the entire collection: that “food is a consistent source of rest and community.”
