Beltline Bones

cmntx-028

Formed in 2021, the Beltline Bones have quickly established themselves as a unique and engaging voice within the world of classical chamber music. Consisting of tenor trombonists Cole Bartels, Justin Coyne, Zach Bethel, and bass trombonist Adam Nissenbaum, the group combines the traditional idiom of trombone quartet with their interests in new music and electronics, and offer a unique and thought-provoking listening experience unlike any other.

When the ensemble was founded, all members of the quartet resided in Madison, WI. The group began under the tutelage of Mark Hetzler while studying at the University of Wisconsin, focusing largely on playing existing repertoire from the canon while performing around South Central Wisconsin. The group later shifted priorities towards electroacoustic performance after discovering the music of composer Eve Beglarian. Now based across multiple states, Beltline Bones continues their work through recording projects and touring to promote the mission of the ensemble.

Due to the limited amount of pre-existing repertoire for trombone quartet with electronics, the Beltline Bones have commissioned a number of works from composers such as Jay C. Batzner and Isaac Mayhew, among others, while also composing their own music and arranging existing electroacoustic chamber music to fit their instrumentation. Much of this body of work is featured on ‘Audiogenica’.
