Andrew Rowan

bio

Andrew Rowan is a composer and orchestrator. He writes music for classical ensembles, electronic instruments, arrangements for songwriters, and has worked in film and media for over a decade as an orchestrator, music librarian, and copyist.

Rowan has released two recordings under his own name: a 2018 ambient-chamber quartet Tanya Largos (premiered at National Sawdust, "...a thing of serene beauty" – Beach Sloth), and a 2021 chamber-folk LP No Branches Without Trees in collaboration with singer-songwriter Steven van Betten (Bandcamp New and Notable March 2021 & No Depression Magazine Best of January 2021). In 2024, he will release Natural History Study (cmntx records), a four-track EP of experimental-electronic-chamber-tape music.

As an arranger, Rowan has collaborated with songwriters and bands Emma Ayzenberg, Derde Verde, Steven van Betten, and Matt Blitzer (Superet). In film and television, Rowan has orchestrated for projects including Disney's Haunted Mansion, Origin (Kris Bowers), Amazon Prime's Goodnight Mommy (Alex Weston), Apple TV+'s Prehistoric Planet, The Simpsons, BBC's Frozen Planet, Frozen Planet II (Bleeding Fingers), and Realm Media podcasts Roanoke Falls, Black Friday, and If I Go Missing the Witches Did It. He is credited as a music transcriber on Oppenheimer (Ludwig Göransson), Killers of the Flower Moon (Robbie Robertson), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Kris Bowers), as music librarian on Don't Worry Darling (John Powell), White Noise, The Woman in the Window (Danny Elfman), and has held numerous additional music preparation roles in association with Fine Line Music Service.

Rowan holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Oregon and a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts.
