Adam Lutz (b.1998) is an electronic artist and textural composer, originally from Western Michigan and currently based in Manhattan.

In his most recent years, Lutz has had pieces premiered by the JACK Quartet and the Hypercube Ensemble, and his film scores have been heard at both the Nashville Film Festival and the Good Grain Film Festival. In the 2019–20 season, Lutz composed The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea, an orchestral tone poem based on the Yukio Mishima novel of the same name, which won Belmont University’s orchestral composition competition. Previously, his Piano Quintet No. 1 received honors from the Southeastern Composer’s League and premiered at a concert of new music at Fisk University.

Lutz’s music has been deeply influenced by both classical and electronic music, amplified even further by his experience as a performer. Since moving to New York, he has discovered working with modular synthesis and was quick to immerse himself in a medium he found inherent and compelling. With his writing, Lutz takes a critical and speculative view on culture, society, and existence. Often referencing works of the philosophical and literary canon, his works, using tools and colors of both classical and electronic music, explore the varying relationships between existence, consciousness, and experience.

Lutz holds a Master of Music Degree in Music Theory and Composition from NYU Steinhardt. He completed his Bachelor of Music Degree at Belmont University where he studied Music Composition and Music Theory and minored in Philosophy. He has studied privately with both Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon.
